Tuesday,
May 24, 2005 - “I
got the parts today and I am very happy with them.
The unfinished parts are very "interesting" I
did not expect them to have so much wax on them. I
am soaking them in the castrol super clean and will
report back to you on its progress. The level of detail
is good. I am very happy with the Maserati body. The
Lola body was nice too, but I think in the future I
will have to make panel lines a bit deeper. The other
issue that I noticed, especially when I tried the Lola
body on the FDM machine where I work is that the orientation
has a great impact on surface finish. Since the Lola
is a slightly tapered wedge the minor incline exhibits
a stair step pattern equal to the resolution to the
machine layers. I found that running them upright -
nose pointing up helps, but still they are very nice
indeed. I did some wet sanding and then put a coat
of primer on it and its going to work out well I believe.
I will take some pictures and start working on the molds right away so we can
have some good information for your case study. In the mean time I plan to finish
the lotus body and get it to you ASAP. The small pipes and intakes came out very
nice, by the way.
Thanks for your help with these parts. I can see that I will want to use you
exclusively for our products.
Regards,
Richard Picard

| About Slot Car Innovations
Slot
car innovations is a joint venture between two
slot car enthusiasts William McCauley and Richard
Picard.
William is an extensive collector of rare cars and
Richard has been resin casting custom bodies for
slot cars since 2003. Both have wanted to bring something
unique to the hobby. Richard’s background in
engineering and plastic molding led them to start
modeling car bodies in CAD. Once modeled in CAD,
a prototype
is made to make a silicone rubber mold suitable for
casting these special resin parts. The precision
of the computer models and the detail of rapid prototyping
tools offer an unlimited offering for car bodies
with
the finest detail.
